Packers quarterback reject 5years deal with Packers due to…

Green Bay Packers quarterback Alex McGough has not seen the field in the NFL since being selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, largely bouncing around practice squads for most of his career. But in an effort to continue his NFL career, McGough decided to make a significant change to what he can offer an NFL team.

The Packer recently changed McGough’s official position from quarterback to wide receiver, a move that we’ve seen from some of the more athletic quarterbacks in the past such as former Cleveland Browns wideout Terrelle Pryor among others.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently spoke about the change for McGough, praising him for his athletic ability that could make the transition an effective one for the Packers in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

“He’s a really athletic guy,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Friday, via Bob Kownack on NFL.com. “He spent a lot of time on the scout team, running receiver routes and he did such a great job. We feel like he’s such a talented athlete. Why not give him a chance there?”

Could McGough actually see game action at wide receiver? Potentially, but the Packers do have a pretty wide receiving corps they are building, with the likes of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks all playing a pretty large role on the team last season.

That being said, his chances of earning playing time, or perhaps even just a roster spot, should certainly be much easier at wide receiver than it was for him at quarterback.
