Penn State lands OT Alan Herron out of NCAA Transfer Portal
Penn State secured its first Transfer Portal commitment of the offseason Monday.
Offensive tackle was a position Penn State was expected to target in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason and on Monday, it
secured a commitment at the position. Shorter (Div. II) transferAlan Herron pledged to the Nittany Lions, picking them over
Clemson and Texas Tech, among others.
Herron made it to Penn State for an official visit over the weekend. He visited Texas Tech the previous weekend and was slated to
make it to Clemson for an official visit this weekend, but that trip will no longer take place.
“I really like their facilities and (they) have some great coaches personality wise,” Herron told 247Sports before visiting Penn State.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Herron has two years of eligibility remaining. He appeared in 11 games for Shorter, which is located in
Georgia, this past season and picked up Power Five offers from Auburn, Boston College, Houston, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland,
Miami, NC State, Syracuse, UCF and Virginia Tech after entering the portal in late November.
Herron is currently the No. 106 recruit overall and the No. 6 offensive tackle in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.
“We’re trying to create the most competitive roster that we possibly can,” Penn State head coach James Franklin said before the
transfer portal officially opened Dec. 4. “Our players understand that. We told them that when we recruited them, whether it’s high
school players or whether it’s transfer portal guys, we just want to create as much competition as we possibly can in the locker room
and go from there. But that’s that’s really what we’re looking for is best players available, and obviously, guys that are the best fits for
our locker room and our campus and community.”
