In the summer, Smyth signed a second contract with QPR.

But with Northern Ireland on Saturday, Smyth fired his nation to a 3-0 win over San Marino in their Euro qualifying group; scoring one, assisting one, and being named Player of the Match.

Journalist Nick Christian, who writes for TNT Sports, chose Smyth as his Player of the Match and added:

Smyth’s QPR had only won two of their first 11 games of the season, placing them in 22nd place in the Championship standings.

For the most of the current season, Ainsworth has been playing Smyth as a wing-back.

Additionally, Smyth’s enthusiasm will be beneficial at any position on the field. Smyth, meanwhile, shown his scoring prowess on Saturday, and perhaps it will offer Ainsworth some food for thought moving ahead.

The R’s offense is having trouble, so perhaps Smyth might help Ainsworth up the field.

It will be difficult for him to step up to the Championship and equal his previous season’s figures, but he proved last season that he can score goals with Leyton Orient.

On Saturday afternoon, QPR will travel to Yorkshire to play Huddersfield Town in their Championship comeback.
