Rangers bosses now in fear of Hampden officials after new statement from Ibrox

Rangers bosses are worried Hampden chiefs won’t be so lenient on the use of pyrotechnics by Rangers fans after they promised to engage with the SPFL in stopping their use, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper shared via their print edition [4 November, pg 36] that, while the higher-ups at Hampden decided not to take action this time, there are fears of a punishment if it happens again.

This comes after the club issued a statement on 3 November asking fans not to bring pyrotechnics to football matches, letting them know that they would be at risk of arrest and the club at risk of football sanctions.

Across the continent from France to Germany to Poland, you see some magnificent displays from the fans in the stands, with pyrotechnics often at the heart of these draw-dropping displays in support of their teams.

Rangers themselves were part of such a display in the clash with Dundee at Dens Park earlier this season, but unlike their European counterparts, it has landed both the fans and the club in hot water with league and police investigations immediately launched.

Fans should be able to show their support for the team with these displays of colour and passion in the stadiums, not punished for it. It has been a frustration for supporter groups across the UK that the use of controlled pyrotechnics remains prohibited.

Having said that, the use of pyrotechnics in football stadiums is, ultimately, illegal. Fans should comply with the club’s wishes and avoid the use of them in a stadium both for the benefit of those around them and to help the club avoid sanctions from the SPFL.
