Rangers: exit now on the cards at Ibrox in January

Kieran Dowell could look for a January transfer move away from Rangers after struggling for game time since arriving in the summer, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via their website [7 December] that Dowell is one of a number of players at Ibrox who will be considering their future when the transfer window opens.

Dowell signed for Rangers as part of Michael Beale’s summer rebuild but has made just three league appearances this season and has struggled to maintain his fitness.

While there was no expense to bringing Dowell to Ibrox, as he arrived on a free transfer when his deal with Norwich City expired, he has somehow still managed to look like a waste of money given his lack of time on the pitch so far this season.

It was a fairly bright start for the midfielder who showed he has something to offer at this level, but in a season that has already been blighted by injuries, he has failed to gain favour under Philippe Clement.

His only involvement in a matchday squad since August came in the 5-0 defeat against Dundee, where he played just eight minutes off the bench, touched the ball three times, gave it away twice, didn’t even attempt a single pass and then disappeared once again. [Sofascore]

If Clement does not rate him, and he isn’t getting the game time he was looking for when he travelled north of the border, it might make sense for Rangers to sell him for an instant profit when the transfer window opens in January.
