Philippe Clement sends firm message to Scotland manager about Rangers star
Rangers manager Philippe Clement insists Robby McCrorie will get his chance at Ibrox in a firm message to Scotland boss Steve Clarke.
Speaking about the talented 25-year-old goalkeeper’s situation in Glasgow, Philippe Clement was clear that Robby McCrorie still has a future at Rangers.
The Ibrox Academy graduate has seen his chances limited this season despite an impressive spell between the sticks towards the end of the last campaign.
Philippe Clement on Robby McCrorie
Speaking ahead of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee, Philippe Clement gave a direct response to questions on Robby McCrorie’s role at the club.
The goalkeeper is yet to make any appearances for the Gers this season but the Belgian manager insists that will change as the campaign progresses.
”I will use him at the right moment,” said Clement. “I’m happy with him with what I’m seeing in training but I don’t think it’s a good way to switch goalkeeper all the time but there will come a moment that he will get game time.”
When asked if Robby McCrorie has come to speak to him about his future, Philippe Clement responded “no”.
The Belgian boss was also asked about Robby McCrorie’s Euro 2024 hopes: “He’s a good goalkeeper so I think he has the quality to be in the Scotland squad
Rangers boss sends Scotland message
Robby McCrorie’s lack of minutes comes with Rangers signing established stopper Jack Butland in the summer, the former England international one of the Gers’ best players this season.
Whilst it’s clear Philippe Clement believes in Robby McCrorie – the stopper linked to Manchester United in the summer – it’s clear the goalie is going to have to wait.
The lack of opportunities at Ibrox had Scotland manager Steve Clarke claiming that Robby McCrorie’s Euro 2024 place could depend on getting greater exposure to the first-team squad this season.
With McCrorie called up to the national team squad in the last round of international fixtures, Clarke said the goalkeeper “needs to play matches”.
Whilst the Scotland national team coach admitted it’s Rangers’ decision to make, there was no need to read between the lines with Robby McCrorie’s Scotland future up in the air.
“If he can get some games at Rangers, then great,” said Clarke. “If Rangers decide to let him go on loan, that would also be great. But that is a decision for the club to make.”
In a clear message to the Scotland manager, Philippe Clement and Rangers plan on using Robby McCrorie this season so a loan move doesn’t appear necessary.
The same cannot be said of another Rangers Academy star, who appears set to move out on loan from Ibrox in January.
Rangers boss Clement has also claimed that there will be some big discussions to be had over the Scotland future of a senior Ibrox star who once again picked up an injury on national team duties.
