Liverpool transfer news as Rangers want to sign in January

Rangers could be set to battle Celtic to sign Liverpool defender Owen Beck following a successful loan at Dundee, according to DaveOCKOP.

The Liverpool journalist, with over 400,000 followers on X including Fabrizio Romano reported [1 January] that the Gers are interested in signing the 21-year-old left-back after impressing in 17 Scottish Premiership matches for The Dee.

It is suggested that Andrew Robertson would need to return from his injury before the end of the month at Anfield for a move to happen though.

Konstantinos Tsimikas is also facing an injury, leaving the field against Arsenal after a challenge from Bukayo Saka, meaning the situation of Beck is now “one to watch.”

Even despite Jurgen Klopp’s poorly timed injuries at full-back, it is difficult to see the manager deputising a 17-year-old in the absence of Robertson and Tsimikas, having only made two appearances for his boyhood club.

Beck joined Dundee on loan in the summer but has now been recalled after a successful spell in Scotland. He made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting two others.

It led to Rob Page handing the youngster his first-ever call-up to the Wales senior squad making the bench against Gibraltar in a 4-0 friendly win.

Although Rangers have Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz in the squad, there is still a lot left to be desired and Beck could be the perfect fit for Philippe Clement’s squad.

While Beck has the opportunity to make more appearances for Liverpool, Klopp is much more likely to use Joe Gomez in the position. A move to Rangers, permanently or temporarily, could gain a lot more experience back in Scotland as the Gers aim for the Scottish Premiership title and Europa League success.
