Rangers reportedly want to sign ‘fantastic’ £35m striker after previous Cristiano Ronaldo comparison…

Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva as the January transfer window draws closer.

We will surely see Rangers move for another forward in the January transfer window

Cyriel Dessers is still attempting to convince the Rangers fanbase whilst Danilo is now out injured.

Add in that Kemar Roofe can’t seem to stay fit and Rangers may believe that another goalscorer is needed.

We now have another rumour to deal with as reports from Portugal suggest that Rangers are interested in Wolves striker Fabio Silva…

Fabio Silva, the story so far

Silva hails from Gondomar in Portugal, just outside of Porto, so it’s no great surprise that Silva started his career in the Porto ranks.

The 6f1 in striker did spend a couple of years away with rivals Benfica but returned to Porto before the age of 16.

Silva started to make strides in the Porto ranks and was a regular goalscorer for Portugal across various youth levels.

Porto handed Silva his senior debut in 2019, making him the club’s youngest-ever player at 17 years and 22 days.

Three goals in 21 senior games showed Silva’s potential but less than a year after his debut, he was sold to Wolves for a staggering £35million.

The move hasn’t worked out at all; Silva has managed just five goals in 73 games for Wolves.

Silva spent the first half of last season on loan at Anderlecht in Belgium, hitting 11 goals in 32 appearances.

PSV Eindhoven swooped in to take Silva on loan and the Portuguese forward managed five goals in 19 games in the Netherlands.

Now back with Wolves, Silva has only started three Premier League games this season and may be available on loan again.

Fabio Silva player profile

Fabio Silva, what they say

“He’s a young lad who is working every single day. He’s been fantastic since he came in. He works so, so hard to improve and get better, and you see that now,” Ex-Wolves teammate Conor Coady speaking in 2022.

“Fabio is a young player who shows not only incredible technical ability, but also his game intelligence for a player of his age is top class. He has the ability to drop in to link play and hold the ball up to bring others into play. He always then looks to get in the box and his movement and intelligence in the penalty area is as good as anyone’s. Fabio has the potential to be a generational talent and for us to see him develop under Nuno is very exciting. He is the type of player our fans will love,” Wolves chairman Jeff Shi after signing Silva in 2020.

“When Ronaldo was 17, he played as a centre-forward for Sporting’s youth teams. I saw him doing things that I’m now seeing a boy from Porto do, Fabio Silva. He will be a hell of a player. In a short time, he will be an extraordinary striker,” Former Premier League midfielder Manuel Fernandes speaking in 2018.

Fabio Silva to Rangers analysis

Rangers invested heavily in attackers over the summer with Dessers, Danilo and Sam Lammers all arriving.

That means investing more cash in strikers will be tricky and Rangers may have to settle for a loan signing.

Silva fits the bill, especially having scored goals in his other loan spells away from Wolves.

Philippe Clement and new director of football recruitment Nils Koppen are both Belgian and may have seen Silva’s exploits at Anderlecht.

Koppen was also part of the PSV recruitment team who signed Silva in January of this year.

The connections are there and Silva would certainly represent an exciting January addition to boost Clement’s strikeforce having shown his talent and potential in fits and starts elsewhere.
