Rangers transfer latest as Philippe Clement linked to six players in January revamp
The Rangers transfer links are already ramping up as the Ibrox side waste no time boosting their squad in the January window.
Gers boss Philippe Clement has reached his first window as Ibrox gaffer and before a breeze had even broken through it in Govan a new body was already in the dressing room.
Fabio Silva represents a solid piece of early business, the £35m Wolves forward a player of huge potential and someone Rangers will hope to improve in the weeks and months ahead.
Beating Celtic to the hitman, let’s hope Fabio Silva plays a big role in a successful season at Rangers but it’s clear the club are not resting on their laurels.
The links continue to pour in and as we look at it, there are three areas of concern that have led to Rangers links popping up in the press.
Rangers linked to four left-back transfer options
Considering Rangers already have two international left-backs in their squad, neutral observers might find these transfer links quite surprising.
But with club stalwart and Croatian international Borna Barisic currently injured, and out of contract at the end of the season, it begins to make a little more sense.
Ridvan Yilmaz might’ve impressed at Celtic Park but injuries, a lack of form, and adapting to the Scottish culture have held the Young Turk back in Glasgow.
As a result there are no fewer than four names being touted for a move to Rangers, with German left-back Kai Wagner and PSV talent Fredrik Oppegard topping the list.
Behind them is £5.2m-rated Verona left-back and homegrown Scottish option Josh Doig, with recalled Dundee star and Liverpool back-up Owen Beck also mentioned.
Could Million Manhoef finally fill Ibrox right-wing void?
It feels like we’ve been speaking about signing a right-winger for years because, well, because we have.
Rabbi Matondo – who has since been more routinely deployed off the left – was supposed to solve that last season but has failed to hold down a place.
Even Todd Cantwell has been asked to deputise in the position as of late with Rangers failing to sign an out-and-out right winger since the days of Daniel Candeias.
But fans will be delighted to hear about links to young Dutch winger Million Manhoef, who could be available for £2.5m this winter.
With current club Vitesse Arnhem rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie and in need of cash, Rangers are said to be pipping the likes of Leicester City to the 21-year-old’s signature.
Philippe Clement has refused to talk about the winger in the press – as he has with anyone linked to Ibrox – so we will just have to wait and see.
Rangers need goals with striker top of hitlist
Rangers might’ve already signed Fabio Silva but the forward isn’t exactly known for his poacher-like instincts or as an out-and-out number nine.
With Danilo recovering from knee surgery, Cyriel Dessers yet to convince fans, and Kemar Roofe back on the treatment table, Rangers are decidedly short up top.
Another striker is expected to be added at Ibrox this January but so far all the chat has been concentrated on one man and one man alone.
Hearts talisman Lawrence Shankland looks like a no-brainer and the prolific bluenose forward has been repeatedly linked in the press.
But the latest from one renowned transfer journalist suggests Rangers are not willing to meet Hearts’ £3m transfer demands.
