Philippe Clement confirms Rangers are assessing injuries to TWO key players
Rangers boss Philippe Clement has lamented injuries in the Ibrox squad as he provided an update on Borna Barisic and Tom Lawrence.
The Belgian manager was speaking after an increasingly threadbare Rangers edged out an impressive 1-0 win away to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers were rocked before kick off at Tynecastle by the news that Borna Barisic was the latest player to succumb to injury in the Ibrox team.
Welsh international Tom Lawrence – who has missed the majority of his two seasons at Ibrox through injury – would then have to be substituted in the first-half.
Rangers to assess Borna Barisic & Tom Lawrence
The injuries continue to mount for Philippe Clement and Rangers and speaking after the Hearts game the manager gave an update on Borna Barisic and Tom Lawrence.
Claiming that both players have muscle issues, it is difficult for the Ibrox manager to put a timescale on both problems as the club await assessments on the players.
“We need to assess (Tom Lawrence’s injury) tomorrow,” said Philippe Clement. “So we will look tomorrow to make a good assessment on that.
“And that’s the downside; it’s not good that you need to change players in the first half, it’s not good we lose Borna (Barisic) before this game, we lose Tom (Lawrence) also today.”
When asked about the specific injuries to Borna Barisic and Tom Lawrence, Philippe Clement said: “No I don’t know, it’s a small muscle problem so I don’t know how long (Borna Barisic) will be out.
“Tom (Lawrence) is also a muscle problem so we’ll see tomorrow if it’s bad or not.”
Philippe Clement laments Ibrox injuries
Philippe Clement has also been expressing his deep frustration with the scale of injuries at Rangers since he walked into the club, and not for the first time.
Ben Davies, John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz, Dujon Sterling, Ryan Jack, Nicolas Raskin, Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell, Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright and Kemar Roofe have all either suffered, or are currently suffering, injury problems since Clement took charge.
As Borna Barisic and Tom Lawrence add to the manager’s head-ache, a frustrated Philippe Clement is trying desperately to find solutions by the game and get his patchwork squad to the January window.
“It’s difficult for me in this moment,” said Clement. ”I’ve never had it in a team that I’ve worked with that so many players fall out injured.
“We don’t have also the time to train them and to make them stronger because we have game by game by game.
“So we need a lot of good work in January and until that period we need to see and to puzzle every time to find the best XI for that game and then for the next game and to make the right changes during the game also so we come through this period with a lot of points.”
Rangers’ impressive victory over Hearts ends a run of four straight Scottish Premiership wins for the Jambos and maintains the pressure on Celtic at the top of the table.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has also made a “promise” to supporters that the injury situation will change under his watch.
