Red Bull ‘ya había tomado una decisión’ de cambiar a Sergio Pérez por Carlos Sainz.

According to rumors he has heard in the paddock, F1 journalist and former team manager Peter Windsor believes Sergio Perez’s contract with Red Bull has already been extended beyond the end of 2024. When Carlos Sainz departs Ferrari at the end of the season, his chances of relocating there will be eliminated if these rumors are true.

The Spanish driver won his third Formula One race of his career after taking advantage of Max Verstappen’s terminal brake problem at the Australian Grand Prix and overwhelming the rest of the field, including his teammate Charles Leclerc. He will not be driving for Ferrari next season, though, as Lewis Hamilton will take his place.

Sainz’s performances since joining the Scuderia have more than justified another drive at a premier team, but Red Bull and Mercedes are his only front-running choices as his Ferrari tenure is drawing to an end and former team McLaren has committed both drivers long-term. A switch to the former now appears difficult.

“I heard in the paddock area from various sources that are pretty reliable that Sergio has already renewed his contract for next year,” Windsor remarked, speaking about the rumors he had heard in Melbourne. In that instance, one might ask, “Well, what was the rush?”

“And if that’s the case, well, that door is obviously closed for Carlos Sainz,” he continued. Thus, a plug-in year at Mercedes with George Russell would be the only thing that would truly work for him.

It, in reality, wouldn’t be a comfortable year for Carlos. It was challenging and a little stressful to just have to hop into the car with George Russell in the other one. doing so under a 2026 deal to join Audi.”
