Report: Lions turned down Ndamukong Suh’s interest in a reunion

Ndamukong Suh and the Detroit Lions aren’t getting back together, but it doesn’t seem like Suh didn’t want to.

This is the time of year when Ndamukong Suh, a defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, is eager to sign a contract with a contending team. Though it’s hardly a novel thought, talk of a reunion with the Lions has inevitably picked up steam recently as Suh narrows in on his best options—especially with Detroit sitting at 9-3.

Here is what head coach Dan Campbell had to say about the signing of Tyson Alaalu to the practice squad last week, which brought up the subject of Suh.

Yes, listen, Brad has reviewed everything, so nobody has been missed. We all gave each other a look. We believe that the choice we took at this time was the right one for us.

There is a slim chance that, should Suh become available later on, the Lions might give him another look. However, it is almost a certain that there won’t be a reunion.

Terry Foster, a former journalist for the Detroit News, claims that Suh and his entourage contacted the Lions to indicate their interest in playing in Detroit again. It seems like the Lions ended the discussion.

“Ndamukong Suh reached out to the Lions about playing here, but he reached out to like four or five other teams also.” said Foster. “Well, he offered to come here in the first place. Ndamukong Suh has spent a lot of time in Detroit in recent months. Here, he has financial interests. Compared to when he was a player, he is now more accepting of this community because his goal back then was to leave as soon as possible. However, I believe that he now perceives the Lions as a club that is winning, confident, and capable of producing a 20–25 snap defensive tackle every game out of his rotation. Therefore, he is interested in visiting this place. But you

Foster expressed some worry regarding Suh’s compatibility with the Lions’ culture and the idea that he is a “me first” kind of man. Suh may disrupt the locker room chemistry, which this regime frequently places a higher importance on than just talent.
Hence, the Lions decided against signing Suh, probably after he or his agent had contacted them to indicate desire in a reunion and they had rejected the idea. Never say never, even now, but the possibility of Suh returning to Detroit should be officially ruled out for good.
