Defender on QPR victory

Cameron Burgess was pleased to send the Town fans home from Loftus Road happy.

Town made it three wins from three at the start of the Championship season with a 1-0 success against the Hoops, courtesy of Conor Chaplin’s strike, 15 minutes from time.

Victory saw Town keep a second-successive clean sheet, with Cameron pleased to come away with the result in front of 3,000 travelling supporters.

“The fans were there in their numbers and had big voices throughout the game, so it was great the winning goal came in front of them,” the defender said.

“We’ve maybe come to expect that level of support but can’t take it for granted, because it really is special. You finish games and realise how big it is. Clapping those fans after games is something special.”

Reflecting on the game, the Town defender said: “If we can do that at the back and keep clean sheets it means the boys at the top only need to score once to win games.

“If we can keep doing that it will help us a lot.

“It was an enjoyable one and it was obviously nice to come away with the three points.

“It was a typical Championship game, really, and we’re going to have to get used to a lot of different battles and challenges, so this will really stand us in good stead throughout the season.

“We’ve played against their manager’s teams before, both with other teams and Ipswich against Wycombe, so we knew it would be a tough game. We had our bearings and we stood up to their quality to get the clean sheet, too.

“They had some good chances, we had some good chances and fortunately we got the goal.”
