Overview of the Seahawks’ lineup: Will Geno Smith start at center again?

The announcement last week that Geno Smith’s base salary for 2024 would be fully guaranteed may have put an end to any preseason turmoil surrounding the Seahawks quarterback position.

However, in the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.”

Smith’s $12.7 million base salary was guaranteed, but the Seahawks were free to look at trade alternatives. If Smith was dealt, they wouldn’t have to pay the salary.

And there’s the matter of what happens to backup Drew Lock.

The Seahawks appear to have a fondness for him, as seen by the recent requests for his name when discussing the quarterback position from offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and head coach Mike Macdonald.

Lock stated during the season that he would be available as an unrestricted free agency in March. This year, he will prioritize time when making his decision.

Now that free agency and the NFL scouting combine are quickly coming, it’s time for our annual offseason recap of the Seattle position groups.

And we’ll start by examining the questions at quarterback.Working behind an offensive line that was also more prone to injuries and somewhat of a revolving door throughout the season, along with suffering more injuries than the season before (missing two games), undoubtedly had an impact.

Smith had his moments, usually when it counted most, including seven touchdown passes in overtime or the lead, the most in an NFL season.

QBs typically receive greater credit or blame based on how things are going, but Smith was by no means the Seahawks’ most pressing issue in 2023.

With his play in two starts, especially the late-game rally against the Eagles, Lock undoubtedly made some people take notice.

With just two quarterbacks on the roster for the most of the season, the Seahawks added Mannion to the practice squad.
