Rangers rivals face main man injury sweat as clock ticks to season defining fixture
It’s always poor form to wish ill on others but, given Rangers injury problems, Aberdeen having doubts over the fitness of Bojan Miovski isn’t the worst news I’ve heard all week.
Philippe Clement’s press conference for the Europa League tie with Real Betis wasn’t the most cheery of affairs in terms of updates for Todd Cantwell and Ryan Jack.
Rangers take on Aberdeen in this weekend’s ViaPlay Cup final but Barry Robson is sweating on his North Macedonian international.
Rangers could face weakened Aberdeen in Miovski doesn’t make it
Miovski limped off against Hearts at the weekend which would have had his manager sweating straight away.
They aren’t quite a one man team but, when you consider the damage that he has done to Rangers this season, scoring in every encounter between the two teams including at Ibrox, he isn’t far off.
According to Robson, the 24-year old striker’s problem is a tight hamstring.
You’d have to think, if it was painful enough to cause him to limp, then it isn’t going to be 100% just a few days later.
Rangers issues are mainly in midfield although, not having Danilo in our squad for the foreseeable future is a massive blow as would Aberdeen losing Miovski for a similar period be.
Good goalscorers don’t grow on trees and, as we have found to our cost, spending more money is no guarantee of success.
The 1-1 draw at Pittodrie might have come late and thanks to a James Tavernier penalty but there were plenty of chances created and opportunities to take all three points, despite the injury time equaliser, the Gers boss was almost happy with the performance.
Miovski was limited in terms of his involvement but he has shown that we can’t gift him the sort of chance that saw him open the scoring.
Rangers will have other players to come in who are experienced at the top level but if Miovski is injured for Aberdeen it will give our players a massive lift and theirs a downer before the first whistle has even been blown.
As if Barry Robson doesn’t have enough to worry about.
