LILLE HOLDING OUT FOR €30M FOR BRIGHTON TARGET CARLOS BALEBA
Carlos Baleba (19) may only have six Ligue 1 starts to his name, but Lille OSC won’t let the defensive midfielder leave on the cheap, according to L’Équipe.
Brighton and Hove Albion see the Cameroonian number six as a replacement for Moises Caicedo (21), whose British record transfer to Chelsea FC was confirmed on Monday. The Seagulls are looking to reinvest the £100m they received for the Ecuadorian midfielder and see Baleba as his successor. Last week, a €20m bid was submitted to Lille, according to L’Équipe, however, this has been rejected.
Lille are holding out for €30m, despite Baleba’s inexperience. The Cameroonian was largely a squad player last season and was fourth choice. However, with Angel Gomes returning late to pre-season training due to his Euro U21 Championship obligations with England, Baleba accused credit with Paulo Fonseca over the summer and started in Les Dogues Ligue 1 opener against OGC Nice.
Whilst Brighton prepare their second offer, L’Équipe report that Baleba has already agreed terms over a move to the Premier League side.

Thanks for the transfer fee but good riddance to Moises Caicedo and his pesky agents
Well that was painful, maybe not if your Albion’s bank manager, but all said that was probably one of the most drawn out and distasteful episodes in my half a century following the Albion.
Caicedo joined Brighton for around £4m in 2021 from Ecuador top flight team Independiente del Valle and made 53 appearances for the Seagulls. He played a key role for Brighton last term as they finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last season and qualified for the Europa League.
Yesterday he completed his £115m move to Chelsea and signed an eight-year contract with the Blues with an option for a further year. It is also reported that Brighton negotiated a future sell-on fee for the 21-year-old should he leave Chelsea in the years ahead.
“Dear Brighton fans,” wrote Caicedo on the Brighton and Hove Albion website. “Today I close an unforgettable chapter in my life. Since my first steps in Europe, you showered me with love and support. In every match, in every minute on the pitch, I felt your cheers and energy.
“We achieved a lot together. How can I forget our qualification for the UEFA Europa League! This achievement belongs to all, each of my teammates, and to you, who were always there. Being chosen as the best player of the season is an honour I share with every team member.
“The time has come to face new challenges, but I want you to know that my love for this club and for all of you remains intact. I will always be a Seagull at heart, carrying with pride the fact of having been part of this family.
“Thank you for everything, Brighton! We’ll see you on the journey.
“With affection, Moises Caicedo.”
