Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Patriots claimed quarterback Nathan Rourke off waivers from the Jaguars. Rourke, a 25-year-old signal caller, is anticipated to fill out the depth chart in New England behind Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones.
Following the Chargers’ Monday claim of quarterback Will Grier off waivers, New England had an available space on its roster. Grier was the second quarterback selected off New England’s practice squad this month; on December 12, the Ravens signed Malik Cunningham to their active roster, forcing him out of Foxborough.
Following his January contract signing, Rourke was waived by the Jaguars on Saturday. This season, he did not play for the Jaguars in an NFL game.
The native of Victoria, Canada played football for the BC Lions of Vancouver in the Canadian Football League before enrolling at Ohio University. After playing for the Lions for two seasons, Rourke was named the 2022 CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian Award winner.
Rourke completed 76% of his passes for 4,035 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in his two seasons in the CFL.

RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn is anticipated to join New England’s practice squad on Monday, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The Buccaneers selected Vaughn, 26, in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Throughout his 43-game career with Tampa Bay, Vaught amassed 465 offensive net yards.
