In the midst of St Mary’s difficulties, a foreign manager offers optimism to a Southampton player.
Joe Aribo has experienced hardship after relocating to England’s South Coast.
Jose Peseiro, the manager of Nigeria, has given Joe Aribo his support.
Since moving from Rangers to Southampton last summer, the midfielder has had trouble finding both his form and his opportunities.
Despite this, it appears Peseiro will still pick the 27-year-old to represent the Super Eagles in international competition.
In the midst of his problems at the club, Southampton midfielder Joe Aribo appears to have received some much-needed support.
That came after Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro, the player’s international manager, claimed he still had trust in the 27-year-old.
How has Aribo’s life been since he joined Southampton?
Aribo moved from Scottish powerhouse Rangers to Southampton last summer after a rumored £6 million cost.
Since then, though, the midfielder has had difficulty finding success and playing time for his current team.
Aribo only started 13 of his 21 league games for the Saints last year, when the team was demoted from the Premier League to the Championship, and he only managed to score twice.
Starting the current season under new manager Russell Martin hasn’t done anything to improve Aribo’s situation.
The midfielder has only made four substitute appearances for Southampton in the Championship so far this year, and he is still without a goal or an assist.
Despite this, it appears that Aribo will continue to have opportunities for the foreseeable being, at least on the international scene.
During the international break, Aribo was in action for Nigeria.
Aribo still appears to be in the running for minutes with Nigeria at the international level, despite not seeing much action for Southampton on a regular basis. The midfielder, who had been selected by his nation for the September international break, entered as a 64th-minute substitute in a 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe, which marked the end of the Super Eagles’ successful qualifying run for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in the Ivory Coast next year.
Aribo had just received his 19th senior international cap, and it seems like his Nigerian management is still willing to offer him more, even if he isn’t currently playing frequently for Southampton.
What did Peseiro say on Aribo?
Aribo’s selection for Southampton during this international break has unavoidably led to questions for Peseiro given the midfielder’s infrequent playing time on a weekly basis.
It is evident that the Nigerian manager still has a lot of faith in the 27-year-old’s skills, though.
Peseiro was reported by allnigeriasoccer as stating of his pick of Aribo: “What I can say is that he doesn’t play too much in the club, sure. But I have faith in him.
“Some players, but not all of them, I believe have skill and capacity even if they do not play for the club.
He didn’t have much time, but he still played, of course. Every weekend, my team and I watch 40 to 50 games, and in the middle, when teams are playing in UEFA competitions, we watch them live on television. He’s in terrific shape to play with us if he’s here.
Is Peseiro dealing with Aribo in the appropriate way?
This seems to be Peseiro’s best course of action with regard to Aribo and the possibility of calling him up for Nigeria.
Despite the fact that he may not be enjoying himself at Southampton right now, the midfielder has
He has already demonstrated his talent and promise when playing for Charlton and Rangers in the beginning of his career.
Given his experience playing at the level he has, it would thus seem a mistake to deny him the chance to contribute that for Nigeria moving ahead. His expertise playing at that level might be helpful for the Super Eagles in important competitions.
In fact, maintaining Aribo at the international level may provide him the self-assurance and playing time he needs to make his way back into Southampton’s first squad, which may mean that Peseiro’s attitude will ultimately be successful for all parties.
