West Ham United under pressure to continue blistering start as £122m news emerges

The Hammers have had a fantastic start to the new campaign, much to the surprise of many, including even some West Ham fans. The team is presently fourth in the Premier League table after its first four games.

Following their opening-day stalemate with Bournemouth, David Moyes has led his team to victory over Chelsea, Brighton, and Luton Town.

This outstanding start has undoubtedly been aided by the club’s successful summer transfer window, which saw the signings of Konstantinos Mavropanos, Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, and James Ward-Prowse.

The Hammers spent a total of £122.6 million to lure these players to East London, according to Sky Sports (2 September). With their London rivals Chelsea far ahead in the list of Premier League clubs due to their £434.5 million investment, that amount places the team at number eight.

Although ranking eighth on such a list is far from the worst position to be in, it does put a lot of pressure on West Ham to perform well in all competitions over the upcoming months.

The club’s Europa League campaign is about to begin, so unfortunately for Moyes and his team, the season will only get harder from here on out.

Last season, the Hammers initially struggled to compete on all fronts for several months before finally getting things going. This could have been due to a lack of squad depth or simply a lack of talent.

At the London Stadium, the season came to a joyful conclusion as the team won the Europa Conference League and ensured their place in the Premier League.

However, it appeared for a while that the Hammers would have to pick one over the other, which is a scenario that fans do not want to repeat this time around.
