Leeds United defender available for transfer amid Birmingham City and West Brom links
Leeds United defender Cody Drameh is available for a transfer before the deadline and both Birmingham City and
West Brom are reportedly interested.
West Brom and Birmingham City have both been credited with an interest in Leeds United defender Cody Drameh
before the transfer deadline passes on Friday night. Right-back Drameh is expected to be available for a move in the
next 36 hours after the Whites moved for Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence, who will battle out that position
with Luke Ayling.
London-born Drameh, 21, joined Leeds as a teenager from Fulham for a fee of £350,000 in the summer of 2020
when the club had just been promoted back to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa. In the period since, though,
he has struggled to break into the first-team having been handed his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win at Norwich in
October 2021.
Drameh has since spent loan spells in the Championship with Cardiff City and, last season, with Luton Town which
resulted in promotion to the top flight via the play-offs. Across those two loans, he accumulated 38 Championship
appearances so the rigours of Championship football would be anything but new to him.
The Athletic report that Blues would be keen on a season-long loan deal for Drameh, while Albion have also asked
about his situation.
Blues have been busy all summer. They’ve already addressed the need for a right-back following the departure of
Maxime Colin by bringing in Ethan Laird on a deal from Manchester United, but the full-back in the early stages of
this season has been battling against niggling injuries. Blues are also expected to complete the signing of versatile
Emanuel Aiwu from Italian side Cremonese.
Albion, meanwhile, haven’t been anywhere near as busy as Blues but have outlined a need for another full-back
option; Carlos Corberan confirmed that he’d like a player who can operate as a right-back or a wing-back before the
transfer deadline. Albion are dealing in loan deals and free transfers this summer but the priority is to reduce further
their wagebill.
Drameh has only a year left on his contract at Elland Road, and he is reportedly reluctant to agree a new deal if his
current situation – remaining on the periphery of Daniel Farke’s plans – was to continue, so it’s believed that Leeds
would be open to a loan or a straight sale before the deadline.
