Nottingham Forest set to sign 2022 World Cup-winning RB to potentially provide competition for Aina
Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign 2022 World Cup-winning right-back Gonzalo Montiel
from Sevilla.
Sky Sports, making reference to the Athletic UK, is reporting that Forest have provisionally agreed a deal for the Argentina national
teamer and will pay Sevilla approximately €11 million for the 26-year-old.
The River Plater Academy product helped an Argentina side captained by Lionel Messi win the World Cup in Qatar, featuring in four
matches mostly as a substitute, including the showpiece versus France.
The González Catán native is set to arrive at the City Ground and could potentially provide competition for Super Eagles star Ola Aina,
who is predominantly a right-back, but can also play as a left-back, left wingback and right wingback.
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper deployed Aina in a left wingback role in the season opener against Arsenal at the Emirates
Stadium and he was tasked with curtailing the threat posed by Bukayo Saka.
The Chelsea academy product did not figure for the Reds in Friday’s home win against Sheffield United because he was recovering a
groin injury he suffered in the days leading up to the game.
Nottingham Forest snapped up Aina as a free agent around a month ago, with the defender putting pen to paper on a one-year
deal with options for the future agreed in the contract.
