Greg Docherty On Hull City, Hamilton, Rangers, And Scotland Ambitions

After suffering a knee ligament injury in preseason, midfielder Greg Docherty is close to recovering, according to Hull City boss Liam Rosenior.

Since joining the Hull team from Scottish powerhouse Rangers in 2020, the 26-year-old has made 125 appearances for the Tigers. Although there haven’t been any discussions about extending his contract, he had the one-year extension from his original three-year deal activated in the summer.

Hull has had a great start to the new Championship season, winning three and drawing one of their first five games under Rosenior. In order to maintain their recent success, the Humberside club will visit Coventry City on Friday night, a team who reached the play-off finals last year.

Docherty will still be sidelined for the match at the MKM Stadium, but the manager is optimistic that the former Scotland under-21 international will soon be able to join the team again. The 39-year-old was interviewed by Hull Live and said;

He’s doing great, thank you. You’re familiar with Doc as a person. He is an outstanding professional who is diligently working. He has worked extremely hard to recover from what was a significant setback to him in preseason; I believe it will be two and a half weeks before he resumes training.

“I’m thinking of every Hull City player,” said the player. It depends on how you practice, how you play, how well you perform, how committed you are, and how professional you are.

“I try to be as fair as possible in my decisions about team selection, transfers, ins or outs, and not just in the case of Doc, but anyone who wears that emblem on their chest. You will be used if you are a Hull City player and have value.

Greg Docherty joined Hull City three years ago and has since made a significant contribution to the team. In his first season, he was crucial to their promotion from League One, and he has been with the team ever since. He was primarily used as a substitute in the latter half of last season, and the Tigers’ early success suggests that he might find it difficult to regain his place in the starting lineup.

Someone like Docherty may prove to be a genuine asset in the coming months, especially as we approach the end of the season, if Hull are serious about challenging for promotion this season. However, it is unclear whether he will be able to secure a new deal.
