This year, Brighton also observed a summer signing for Spurs, according to a journalist
Before Tottenham rushed in to sign the Argentine sensation, journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Alejo Veliz was on Brighton’s radar this summer.
Brighton has received high accolades for their hiring practices over the past several years because they continually locate undiscovered talent to take the place of stars they have paid top dollar to sell.
That is maybe the reason Tottenham apparently overhauled their hiring process in the summer by creating a data model based on interviews with gambling analysts and supposedly adopting design cues from the Seagulls (Telegraph).
Alejo Veliz was also considered by Brighton this summer.
It has now been revealed that Veliz, who was signed by Spurs in the summer after making a splash at Rosario Central, was a player that Brighton had also eyed as a possible target.
The 20-year-old, who cost £12 million to bring to North London, made his Under-21 debut last week in a 5-0 victory against Colchester, and Wayne Burnett, the academy coach, praised him for his performance (Spurs Play).
According to Jones, Ange Postecoglou may decide to ‘unleash’ the youthful center striker in the second half of the season.
“He has been scouted by clubs including Brighton and Rangers, and while they hesitated to commit to him, Spurs took him on as they see him as a player who can make his mark on the Premier League,” he said in a statement to GiveMeSport.
This first season is crucial for bedding him and assisting him in fully comprehending how he will go about doing it. Before Christmas, we won’t see him much, but by the conclusion of this campaign, he may be fully released.
In order to give the young player a taste of competitive English football, I wouldn’t be shocked if Tottenham decided to loan Veliz to a Championship team or maybe a team like Luton Town or Burnley during the second half of the season.
