Wrexham AFC players visit Club legend to collect Superkids donations

Wrexham AFC players Luke McNicholas and Liam Hall visited Hillbury House Care Home to collect donations for North Wales Superkids, which were handed over by Club legend Gareth Davies.

The home has taken care of our former promotion-winning captain for a number of years, and both goalkeepers got to meet him and

learn more about the Club’s history while collecting the donations.

Davies, 74, captained arguably the Club’s greatest-ever team, which earned promotion in the 1977-78 season, as well as leading the

Red Dragons in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

North Wales Superkids is a community effort that the Club has supported over several years, and continued to do so for this year’s collection.

The project ensures only the most in need of families are supported – those referred via a social worker, teacher, or hospital and for

whom Christmas wouldn’t happen without such donations.

On receiving the donations from Hillbury House and Gareth Davies, Head of the Wrexham AFC Community Trust John Widdowson

said: “It’s fantastic to work alongside Hillbury House and receive the donations which will go a long way in supporting those who need

it most in our community.

“We are also grateful that Luke and Liam got to meet an icon in Gareth and share their stories about the Club.”

McNicholas has made three appearances so far this campaign and explained it was an honour to meet Gareth and learn more about

the Club’s history while collecting items for an important cause.

He said: “The support the community gives the Club is massive, and this is our way to pay them back and we’ve met some amazing people.

“Gareth is an inspiration to all of us and we all want to get to the Club back to where it once was.”

Cindy Clutton, Manager at Hillbury House also explained the visit was fantastic for the care home and for an important cause.

She added: “It’s an achievement for everyone and a special occasion for Gareth to see players coming to our care home.

“Being involved in North Wales Superkids is extremely important for the community, and it’s great that we have been able to donate to

Wrexham AFC’s efforts.”

Also supporting the initiative was SP Energy Networks, who have been our community partner since the summer of 2022, and they

dropped off their donations earlier this week.
