Manchester United could pull off a loan swap with Bayern Munich amid claims they want a shock deal for Scott McTominay.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is set to join United and we’re then expecting the focus to complete turn to a new midfielder.

Sofyan Amrabat is the focus but we can’t rule out a move for Bayern Munich talent Ryan Gravenberch either.

The Dutchman worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, performing so well that he landed himself a move to Bayern last summer.

The move really hasn’t worked out for Gravenberch, who started just three Bundesliga games last season.

Maybe a reunion with Ten Hag can get him back on track – and maybe Bayern have a potential exchange in mind.

Bayern Munich interested in Scott McTominay

You read that right and it was just as much of a surprise to us.

Sport Bild report that Bayern are considering a move to sign United midfielder Scott McTominay in the coming days.

It’s stated that Thomas Tuchel is desperate to land a holding midfield player and wants to bring in McTominay for that role.

Tuchel views Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and new signing Konrad Laimer as more box-to-box players and surely thinks the same about Gravenberch.

The report even claims that a loan swap involving McTominay and Gravenberch is ‘possible’ ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

That would be an interesting proposal and one that United may give real thought to given Ten Hag’s appreciation for Gravenberch combined with McTominay’s lack of action lately.

McTominay would still be a strange Bayern signing

We’ve said it before but will say it again – Scott McTominay isn’t a holding midfield player.

Maybe that becomes his role down the line, but at this stage in his development, he is being miscast if he’s viewed as a ‘number six’.

McTominay is big, tall and physical, so sometimes gets tabbed as a powerful holding midfield player – something Bayern seemingly feel too.

Yet the Scotland international is arguably at his best when given the freedom to break into the box and impact the game going forward.

We have certainly seen this with Scotland, where McTominay has become a major goalscoring threat having been allowed to crash into the box.

This won’t really be United’s concern if Bayern really want McTominay, but it would be strange to see the German giants push for his signature in a role that just isn’t his best right now.
