Sunderland have reached ‘agreement in principle’ to sign player – ‘Long-term contract’ waiting for him

As well as trying to seal a late deal for Edouard Michut, Sunderland are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for another player.

That man is defender Timothée Pembélé, and it appears the Black Cats are getting closer to getting the transfer over the line.

The news comes from RMC Sport in France, who report that an ‘agreement in principle’ has been reached between the Ligue 1 champions and the Championship side regarding the 20-year-old’s transfer.

The amount isn’t revealed, but what is is that a ‘long-term contract’ is awaiting the player at the Stadium of Light, with the English side ready to commit long-term to the defender.

His versatility is likely to be one of the reasons why Sunderland are after him, but it remains to be seen whether the two sides will be able to get the deal officially done on time.

There is still ample time left to get it sorted, but we all know how even the smallest details can scupper transfers late on in the transfer window.

The right-back has been at Paris Saint-Germain since joining in 2015, and spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Girondins de Bordeaux.
