Everton ‘in talks’ with Euro giants for exciting Gnonto alternative; PSG and unnamed PL club in the race

Everton are reportedly ‘in talks’ to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko, who is also a target for French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s no secret that Sean Dyche is keen to add another winger to his squad before the transfer window closes and the 20-year-old could prove to be an excellent long-term investment.

Everton have already made four signings this summer in Ashley Young (free), Arnaut Danjuma (loan), Youssef Chermiti (£15m) and Jack Harrison (loan) as they look to avoid another relegation battle.

The Toffees’ top winger target has long been considered to be Wilfried Gnonto. They are still trying to negotiate a transfer fee with Leeds and have just made an improved offer of £25m for him.

The Italy international has already agreed personal terms with Everton, and has refused to play in Leeds’ last two matches as he tries to force through a move to Goodison Park.

Director of Football Kevin Thelwell is currently scouring the market for alternatives to Gnonto, however, in case they can’t secure his signature this summer.

Everton, PSG ‘in talks’ for Bakayoko

According to reputed transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, both Everton and PSG are currently ‘in talks’ with PSV over signing Bakayoko this summer, along with another unnamed Premier League club.

On Twitter, Tavolieri wrote: “Everton are one of two PL clubs currently in talks for Johan Bakayoko. They are set to make an official approach to PSV Eindhoven in the coming hours. PSG has not left the race yet.”

Bakayoko broke into the PSV first team in 2022/23 after impressing for Jong PSV in the previous campaign, when he scored 17 goals and made 12 assists in 32 league appearances.

The Belgium international has since played 41 matches for the PSV first team, netting seven goals and making seven assists.

While PSG provide stiff competition, Everton may have an advantage in the race for Bakayoko.

Toffees centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite spent last season on loan with PSV, so he could help convince the winger to join them.

PSV’s current president Marcel Brands also spent three years as the Director of Football at Everton, so the Merseyside club should have a good relationship with the Dutch side.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Everton do put a concrete bid on the table for Bakayoko if they are unable to seal a deal for Gnonto, as the report suggests.
