Bill Hillgrove has called Pittsburgh Steelers games for thirty years. On Thursday, Hillgrove, who has called plays for the Steelers for almost 500 games, announced his retirement.
With the Steelers, Hillgrove, 83, called 460 games during the regular season and 35 during the postseason, including four Super Bowls. When Pittsburgh won Super Bowls XL and XLIII, he was on the call.
“Bill Hillgrove’s contributions to both the Steelers Radio Network and the Steelers organization have spanned nearly three decades that included him serving as our play-by-play announcer for four Super Bowl appearances and countless other memorable games during his tenure,” Art Rooney II, the Steelers president, said in a statement Since he started working alongside the legendary Myron Cope on the airways in 1994, he has been an integral component of our radio network’s broadcasting to our incredible listeners, but he has also made time to participate in a vast number of special events. Steelers Nation will sincerely miss Bill, but we can’t wait for him and his family to enjoy their retirement.”
