Coventry City v Ipswich Town: Live Championship updates
- Town need four points from final two games to secure automatic promotion to Premier League
- FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry can’t finish in the top-six
COVENTRY TEAM NEWS
Two changes to the Coventry side that started Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Blackburn.
IN: Latibeaudiere and Sheaf
OUT: Kitching (suspended) and O’Hare
Key midfield man Ben Sheaf was said to be a big doubt.
Coventry reporters think this will be a 4-3-3/4-3-1-2.
TOWN TEAM NEWS
Three changes to the team that started Saturday night’s intense 3-3 draw at Hull.
IN: Edmundson, Broadhead, Moore.
OUT: Woolfenden, Chaplin, Hirst.
Leif Davis goes again after rolling his ankle. No Harry Clarke or Ali Al-Hamadi in the squad.
WHO WILL PLAY?
– Left-back assist machine Leif Davis limped off in the latter stages of Saturday night’s draw at Hull after rolling his ankle. Will he be fit to go again?
– George Hirst and Wes Burns both started at the weekend following lengthy lay-offs. Will they be good to go again?
– Might McKenna freshen up in some other areas too? The likes of Harry Clarke, George Edmundson, Jack Taylor, Nathan Broadhead, Jeremy Sarmiento and Kieffer Moore are options for change.
Team news at 7pm.
TONIGHT’S OPPOSITION
Coventry beat Leicester and Leeds here. They knocked Wolves out of the FA Cup and pushed Manchester United all the way in a dramatic 120 minute semi-final at Wembley. In Ellis Simms, Haji Wright and Callum O’Hare they have forward players in form. A side not to be underestimated.
How motivated will they and the crowd be tonight though? The highest the Sky Blues can finish is seventh.
How tired will they be? This is their fourth game in 10 days (including that Cup epic) and key men like Liam Kitching and Ben Sheaf are unavailable.
MCKENNA STAYING LEVEL-HEADED
Ipswich are winless in four, but Kieran McKenna is happy with the way his side is playing. Saturday night’s 3-3 draw at Hull was a classic. In the build-up to this one, Blues boss has said: “All we can do is what we said we would do at the very start and that’s go absolutely all-in for 46 games and see where we’re at come the end.”
WHAT’S AT STAKE…
A Premier prize is tantalisingly close, but there is still a huge job to do.
– Win tonight and Town would ‘just’ need to draw at home against virtually-relegated Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday.
– Draw tonight and the Blues would have to beat Huddersfield on Saturday lunchtime to be guaranteed of second spot.
– Lose tonight – and this bit doesn’t bear thinking about – McKenna’s men would go into the final day needing Leeds to drop points at home to out-of-form Southampton.
