2 Blackburn Rovers players whose continued presence last month surprises us

Hull City | Team News: Blackburn Rovers (A)

Although many other clubs were interested in this duo, they entered the first weekend of September as Rovers players.

Blackburn Rovers had a busy summer, adding new potential and getting rid of players to raise money. Bradley Dack was given free passage to Sunderland.
Ben Brereton Diaz, who left the team for Villarreal for free, was the biggest loss for the team this summer. By releasing him early, they may have made money.
Sam Gallagher and Adam Wharton garnered interest, but no team was willing to pay the asking price for them. If Gallagher has a bad year, Rovers might regret not making a profit.

Right now. Just a few days have passed since the summer transfer window closed, and what a window it was. Deals that were delayed, abandoned, hijacked, or that couldn’t be completed in

time and whatever a partridge in a pear tree’s summertime equivalent is.

The summer was fairly active for Blackburn Rovers. They were able to recruit Niall Ennis, Andrew Moran, and Semir Telalovic, three young, talented players.

To gain a little additional money, they were also able to offload players like Ashley Phillips and Adetayo Edun. In addition, they will have avoided paying Bradley Dack’s wages by allowing him to transfer for free to Sunderland.

The club’s biggest summer loss was undoubtedly Ben Brereton Diaz. It was unfortunate that he traveled to Villarreal for free because they could have sold him for money if they had agreed to let him leave earlier.

These two players gave off the impression that they would leave but didn’t.

Adam Wharton

Numerous Premier League clubs shown strong interest in the young midfielder. Alan Nixon claims that the 19-year-old attracted the interest of London-based clubs Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The journalist also claimed that Wolves, another team from the Premier League, had actually made a proposal of £12 million for the midfielder. The bid reportedly came later in the window and fell far short of the club’s estimate of £20 million for their promising young player.

They set his price in that range because Alex Scott of Bristol City was sold to AFC Bournemouth for a sum that was relatively similar.

He still has four more years left on his contract with Rovers, and given how much Championship experience he already has at such a young age, he is a pricey adolescent.

However, there was a belief that, like Scott, someone would make the payment given the financial clout that permeates England’s top flight. Though no one did.

Sam Gallagher

At the conclusion of the current campaign, Blackburn will have the option to extend the striker’s contract by another year. It was surprising that the club didn’t pursue their interest in him, given the possibility that they wouldn’t want to keep him around.

According to Nixon, the 27-year-old was coveted by Stoke City and Coventry City.

In 2019, Rovers paid close to £5 million to get him. There were claims that they

If they were going to let him leave, they would want to make a profit on their asset. He wasn’t worth that much money to either Championship team.

If things don’t work out as well for Gallagher this year, Rovers might look back and wish they had cashed in, with the possibility that he could go for free in July 2024.
