What alternatives does Gary O’Neil have as Wolves prepare to play Liverpool on Saturday at 12.30pm in the Premier League? At his Friday press conference, the manager was questioned about any updates on injuries, and he was able to provide some good news.

Tommy Doyle: According to O’Neil, Tommy Doyle has recovered from a minor knee injury and will be fit to play against Liverpool. Doyle missed the 3-2 loss at Crystal Palace on September 3 due to the issue, only two days after agreeing to a season-long loan from Manchester City with an eye toward a £4.3 million permanent deal.

Doyle has stiff competition from Mario Lemina and Joe Gomes in center midfield, so it’s unclear if he will start, but a spot on the bench seems plausible.

Joe Hodge is the only player who is now unquestionably out due to injury, however it is not anticipated that this will be a long-term problem. The Carabao Cup victory against Blackpool a fortnight ago left the Republic of Ireland under-21 captain with a hamstring injury, but he might be back in action in around a week.

Sasa Kalajdzic: After missing a year due to an ACL injury, the striker is still improving as he attempts to regain full match fitness. After recovering from the injury in preseason, Kalajdzic was ready to play again, appearing as a substitute in the Premier League games this year as well as starting the Carabao Cup victory against Blackpool.

O’Neil said that the striker was able to advance more during the break for international play. He participated in a friendly game on the practice field, which O’Neil utilized to work with the players who weren’t selected for the 13-man international roster.

Any further worries in the camp? Positive news on that front. The guys are in a good place, according to O’Neil. Although Hodgey is still absent, the rest of the group is doing well. Naturally, a couple who had been on overseas assignment came back to us late. For a couple, it is their first day of practice, but we are in good shape in terms of injuries.
