Paul Finebaum identifies the best quarterback in college football who “never played up to the

The best quarterback in collegiate football was a topic of discussion as the 2024 season drew near. Was it Quinn Ewers of the Texas Longhorns, Carson Beck of the Georgia Bulldogs, Jalen Milroe of the Alabama Crimson Tide, or Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes?

The Miami Hurricanes’ outstanding quarterback, Cam Ward, soon joined the discussion. Beck was ranked as the top choice in the NFL Draft in a preseason mock draft, suggesting that some experts thought he was the front-runner.

In 2023, Beck found it difficult to build on his early success as a starter. He completed 72.4% of his throws that season, gaining 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. But in the season that followed, he performed worse. He had 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 64.7% of his passes. Furthermore, Georgia has suffered three losses this season—the most since 2018—as a result of his performance.

Paul Finebaum claimed on his program, “The Paul Finebaum Show,” that Beck never lived up to the high standards. “Georgia had the best quarterback in the country coming back this year, and he never played up to that level,” Finebaum stated.

Beck was unable to play in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals after suffering an injury during the first half of the SEC Championship Game. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the No. 7 seed, defeated the Bulldogs as a result. Beck first declared that he would join the NFL Draft, but he ultimately chose to use the transfer portal.

Beck declared his intention to join the Miami Hurricanes as a transfer. On a recent program, Finebaum stated that Beck made that choice because the NFL did not want him involved. Ward, who had a fantastic season at Miami, will be replaced by Beck. With a completion rate of 67.2%, the Heisman Trophy winner threw for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His strong play has elevated him in NFL mock drafts, increasing the likelihood that he will be selected in the early first round. He’s even projected as the first pick in some mock drafts.
