Using voice analysis, an AI technology aims to diagnose illnesses. By Associated Press’s Dave Skretta January 6, 2025, Monday After two decisive victories, including one against SEC foe Arkansas, Tennessee solidified its hold on No. 1 in the AP Top 25 on Monday, making the Volunteers the only club in men’s Division I college basketball without a loss. To stay at the top of the poll for the fifth consecutive week, the Vols received four additional first-place votes and 45 of 60 from the national panel. After the first week of conference play for several leagues across the world, Auburn received the remaining 15 first-place votes and remained at No. 2, while Iowa State, Duke, and Alabama completed a top five that remained unaltered.

After defeating Norfolk State and the then-No. 23 Razorbacks 76-52, Tennessee moved up to 14-0 and tied the school’s third-longest winning streak. Additionally, the Volunteers were the only team in men’s major college basketball without a single blemish after Florida lost a shootout to Kentucky and Oklahoma was thrashed by the Crimson Tide.

“There’s a reason they’re the top team in the nation,” Arkansas coach John Calipari stated, “and I wasn’t disappointed that we traveled to Tennessee and lost. It was because we were somewhat mistreated by them. This season, the Vols have done that a lot. They have only lost against someone by double digits once.

You know, it’s all for the players. “Good families,” remarked Rick Barnes, coach of Tennessee. They know what we expect of them, but they also have expectations of themselves. They simply need to be reminded of it every day. After defeating Florida, the Wildcats moved up four spots to the sixth position. Following them were Texas A&M, who defeated Texas to give the Aggies their seventh straight victory, Marquette, the Gators, and UConn.

After blowing out UCF and dropping a close game to West Virginia, Kansas fell four positions to No. 11. Following the Jayhawks were Mississippi State, Oregon, Houston, and Illinois, who moved up nine spots this week and was the greatest climber. After losing to the Crimson Tide 107-79, Oklahoma dropped five spots, and Michigan State was ranked No. 16. Following the Boilermakers’ victories over Minnesota and Northwestern last week, Purdue, Memphis, and Gonzaga completed the top 20.

The Mountaineers, who defeated Oklahoma State after defeating Kansas, were ranked No. 21 for the first time since December 26, 2022. The Wolverines returned after a two-week break, and the Aggies made their season debut at No. 25. They were followed by UCLA, Mississippi, Michigan, and Utah State.

You’re furious because you’re 14-1. After Utah State defeated Fresno State 89-83 on Saturday, coach Jarrod Calhoun remarked, “That’s kind of childish behavior, but you can’t be satisfied.” “I kind of live my life in survival mode like that.”

After defeating then-No. 9 Oregon 109-77 and winning at Washington on Sunday, Illinois moved up nine spots to No. 13. Cincinnati lost against Kansas State and Arizona, dropping them all the way out of the No. 16 rankings. Following the Bruins’ loss against Nebraska in their lone game of the week, the Ducks dropped six spots while UCLA dropped seven spots to No. 22.

West Virginia has only made two appearances in the AP Top 25 since the last edition of the 2020–21 season, with its current ranking of No. 21. With Calhoun out, Utah State is ranked for the first time this season, while Michigan is ranked for the third time. These three came in at the expense of Baylor, the Razorbacks, and the Bearcats.

With victories against Stanford and California to start ACC play, Pittsburgh was the first team outside the Top 25. In the middle of its six-game winning streak, Nebraska was listed on 21 ballots. After defeating Fordham for the eighth consecutive time, St. Bonaventure was listed on five ballots. The Bonnies, who had only lost to Utah State, have only been in the poll for three weeks since the 1970–71 campaign.
