Football at Virginia Tech is rising in the transfer portal rankings.

This winter portal window has been active for the Virginia Tech football team, one year after almost no transfer portal departures from Blacksburg and a few significant signings. As of right now, Brent Pry has seen 25 players leave through the portal, while 17 have joined. The 2025 Hokies will look different if you include players that are leaving for the NFL Draft. In terms of the transfer portal, Pry and his team have done a good job of attracting talent that will immediately contribute. Regarding Virginia Tech’s roster, one industry is quite concerned about what has transpired in the past month.

According to the On3 transfer portal rankings, Virginia Tech is ranked second. The Hokies are ranked second in the ACC by On3, which announced its transfer portal rankings. Miami is ranked first. Furthermore, and somewhat surprisingly, Virginia Tech is ranked 14th in the nation. They base their rankings as follows:

On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.”

This confirms what we already know, which is that Brent Pry has achieved great success using the transfer portal. Additionally, he does a fantastic job of recruiting Virginia players to play in Blacksburg from other out-of-state programs.

  1. He has had a lot of success off the field, but he still struggles on it, which bodes well for his future at Virginia Tech in 2025. Pry is making an effort to load up for the upcoming season; all that remains is to see the same level of success on the field for 12 weeks as we have witnessed during the off-season.
