TEMPE, Arizona The Tritons lost to Arizona State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center, despite Julia Haynes, a rookie to UC San Diego, winning at No. 1 singles. To put the Tritons on the scoreboard, Haynes defeated Emilija Tverijonaite, ranked 24th, in two sets. In the yearly match between the two teams, the Sun Devils prevailed by winning five singles matches and all three doubles courts.

With five wins in two sets each on courts two through six, the Sun Devils proved to be too formidable on the remaining courts. TRITON TIDBITS Haynes, UC San Diego’s first-ever rated player in its Division I period, is ranked No. 77 in the ITA preseason rankings. Haynes’ victory over Tverijonaite was the highest-ranked singles victory in Division I program history for the Tritons. For the second straight game, UC San Diego started with the same lineup.
